Odontodactylus hawaiiensis [Odontodactylus hawaiiensis]

Description

On Hawaiian reefs, this mantis shrimp is often seen near rocky bottoms where it can secure itself in cracks and burrows. Divers might spot it by its sudden emergence and rapid lateral movements as it hunts small prey. Even from a distance, its bright, armored look and quick reactions stand out against the reef background.
