Pteraster solitarius [Pteraster solitarius]
Description
Divers may spot this starfish as a solitary, slow-moving “spiny star” clinging to rocky or hard-bottom habitats. Its arms are lined with short, pointed projections, giving it a rough, textured look as it blends into the seafloor. Often seen resting quietly between rocks, it’s a great example of how starfish can camouflage in crevices.
