Pteraster alveolatus [Pteraster alveolatus]
Description
Divers may recognize Pteraster alveolatus by its “pitted” or alveolated (honeycomb-like) texture across the body and arms. This gives the starfish a rugged, sculpted appearance compared with smoother sea stars. It’s often found resting on the seafloor, where its camouflage and low profile make it easy to miss until you’re right on top of it.
