Pteraster acicula [Pteraster acicula]
Description
This species often appears as a compact starfish with a distinctive, spiny or sharply textured surface. Underwater, it can look like a small cluster of arms studded with fine projections, especially when it’s settled on rock. Divers usually notice it by its unusual texture and the way it holds tight to the seafloor.
