Obelia irregularis [Obelia irregularis]
Description
Obelia irregularis forms branching colonies that can look somewhat uneven or “messy” compared with more symmetrical hydroids, creating a natural, textured patch on the seafloor. Divers may observe small polyps along the branches, which can make the colony look slightly more detailed when it’s feeding. It’s a classic example of how hydroids contribute to the fine-scale biodiversity of rocky habitats.
