Leptothecate hydroids [Leptothecata]
Description
Leptothecates are colonial hydroids that often appear as fine, feathery “brushes” or delicate stalks on rocks, wrecks, or kelp. Divers may spot tiny polyps clustered along slender stems, sometimes glowing or shimmering in the light. When currents pass, the colonies can look like living filigree.
