Lepas (Lepas) pacifica [Lepas (Lepas) pacifica]
Description
Lepas (Lepas) pacifica is a goose barnacle commonly associated with life on the underside of floating debris. Divers can sometimes see it as a cluster of small, whitish shells, each with a living opening that can reveal feathery cirri during feeding. It’s a great example of how even “floating” animals can be active filter-feeders in the open ocean.
