Lepas australis [Lepas (Lepas) australis]

Lepas australis
Description

Divers may spot this goose barnacle attached to floating debris, ropes, or the hull of a boat. It looks like a small, cone-shaped shell with feathery cirri that extend into the water to filter plankton. When conditions are calm, the feeding appendages can be seen swaying as the animal captures drifting food.
