Hooded Carpet Shark [Hemiscyllium strahani]
Description
The Hooded Carpet Shark is a species of longtailed carpet shark, family Hemiscylliidae, found in the Gulf of Papua, New Guinea, and the Arafura Sea, Australia. It is a small shark reaching up to 74 cm (29.1 in) in length. The common name is derived from a large black spot, or 'hood', over the gills and pectoral fins. This shark is known for its ability to 'walk' using its pectoral fins, and resides in shallow coral reef habitats.
