Heterocarpus amacula [Heterocarpus amacula]
Description
Divers may spot this deepwater shrimp as a small, translucent crustacean tucked into rocky crevices or hovering just above the seafloor. With its delicate body and subtle movements, it’s easy to miss—until it suddenly flicks its tail and disappears into the shadows. Encounters are usually brief, but it’s a great example of the “hidden life” that thrives below the reach of most daylight.
