Chiton with pitted shell [Belknapchiton alveolus]
Description
This species often appears as a low, flattened chiton wedged against rock, with a shell surface that can look subtly pitted or dimpled. Under good light, divers can spot the fine texture that helps it blend into the reef’s gritty, encrusted surfaces.
