Bloody Hermit [Dardanus sanguinocarpus]
Description
The Bloody Hermit is named for its bold, reddish tones that can stand out against rocks and seagrass. When divers look closely, they may notice the crab inhabiting a shell and sometimes associating with anemones or other sheltered microhabitats. Watch for quick, deliberate retreats into the shell when something approaches.
