Black chiton [Belknapchiton ater]
Description
As its name suggests, divers may encounter a dark, almost black chiton gripping rock in the intertidal-to-subtidal zone. Its heavy-looking plates and low profile make it easy to miss at first glance—until you see it slowly shift or catch the light on its ridged shell.
