Atlantic Mushroom Coral [Scolymia lacera]
Description
Divers often spot this coral as a fleshy, mushroom-like mound with a broad, textured surface. It typically grows in solitary or small clusters, and its tentacle-like polyps can appear as subtle bumps or folds when the coral is relaxed. In clear water, the colors and mottled patterning can make it look like a living patchwork on the reef.
