Spotted Slime Star [Pteraster capensis]
Description
The Spotted Slime Star is a species of starfish found in the southeast Atlantic Ocean. It prefers to dwell in sandy or muddy bottoms at depths of 91 to 1,800 meters. This species has a unique spotted appearance with a diameter of up to 15 centimeters. Like other species in its genus, it defends itself by shedding its slimy outer layer when threatened.
