Dardanus rufus [Dardanus rufus]
Description
Rufus hermit crabs are often noticed for their warm, reddish-brown coloration that helps them camouflage among rocks and algae. Divers may spot them tucked into shells and emerging briefly to graze or scavenge before retreating again. Look for subtle shell movements and quick dashes when the environment changes.
