Red Brocade Hermit [Dardanus insignis]
Description
This striking hermit crab wears a shell like a living piece of coral—often with a vivid red, patterned look that really pops underwater. Divers may spot it scuttling along rocky bottoms or among crevices, using its shell as both shelter and a mobile home. If you watch closely, you’ll see it carefully probe and reposition itself as it searches for food and a safe spot.
