Dardanus imperator [Dardanus imperator]
Description
As its name suggests, this hermit crab can look especially bold and imposing compared with other shell-dwellers. Divers may encounter it perched on or near rocky habitats, where it uses its shell for protection while it forages along the bottom. With a bit of luck, you’ll catch it in the act of shifting position—an efficient, purposeful movement that’s easy to observe.
