Spotted Hermit Crab [Dardanus megistos]
Description
Spotted hermit crabs are recognizable by their patterned bodies and the way they carry a shell like a portable home. Divers may see them scuttling over sand patches or reef rubble, pausing to test the surroundings with their antennae. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch one “working” its shell—adjusting posture or moving to a new spot.
