Scorpaenopsis oxycephala [Scorpaenopsis oxycephala]
Description
This scorpionfish species is a classic reef ambush predator, often perched motionless among rocks and coral rubble. Divers may notice its mottled, camouflage-like body and spiny silhouette, then realize it’s been watching from close range before it suddenly shifts or flicks its fins.
