Pteraster spinosissimus [Pteraster spinosissimus]

Description

As the name suggests, this species is noticeably spiny, with prominent arm projections that make it stand out against the substrate. Underwater, divers can observe it gripping the seafloor and slowly repositioning itself, usually in areas with plenty of hard substrate. Its spiky silhouette is especially striking in low light or when viewed from the side.
