Hastate sea star [Pteraster hastatus]
Description
With arms that can look spear- or arrow-like in outline, Pteraster hastatus can be a memorable sight for divers scanning rocky bottoms. Its spiny or textured surface helps it blend while still offering plenty of detail at close range. Like many sea stars, it’s typically calm and slow, making it ideal for patient, careful viewing.
