Flabellate sea star [Pteraster flabellifer]
Description
Divers often spot this sea star by its broad, fan-like arms and a textured, spiny look. It tends to blend into rocky or reefy habitats, but its distinctive arm shape makes it stand out once you’re close. When it moves, it’s usually slow and deliberate, using tube feet to cling and reposition.
