Obelia alternata [Obelia alternata]

Description

Divers commonly encounter this hydroid as a branching colony with many small polyps projecting from the stems. In clear water, it can look like a delicate tangle, and the polyps may extend to capture plankton, giving the colony a lively, “alive” look even when it’s stationary.
