Millepora striata [Millepora striata]

Description

Millepora striata is recognizable by its more clearly defined, striated (lined) surface—often appearing as ridges or grooves running across encrusting or low-growing forms. Divers may notice how the lines catch light and make the coral look patterned, almost like fine engraving on the reef. It’s a beautiful but hazardous coral to handle; even a light bump can trigger a painful sting.
