Sheet Fire Coral [Millepora platyphylla]
Description
Divers often notice this fire coral as a thin, sheet-like patch that can look like a delicate, pale-to-tan crust on rock or reef. Its surface may show subtle ridges or a netted texture, and it can be surprisingly tough despite its delicate appearance. Like other Millepora species, it’s best admired from a distance—its stinging cells can cause painful contact.
