Fire Coral (Millepora foveolata) [Millepora foveolata]

Fire Coral (Millepora foveolata)
Description

This fire coral often appears as a compact, lumpy colony with a distinctive pitted or “foveolated” texture. Divers may see it as a patchwork of small depressions and raised areas, usually on hard substrates where currents bring food. It’s a great example of how reef-building animals can look like rock or sponge at first glance—until you notice the coral-like structure.
