Eunicella rigida [Eunicella rigida]
Description
Eunicella rigida forms sturdy, upright branches that can resemble a small forest growing from crevices or rocky slopes. In clear water, divers see the fine texture of its polyps and how the colony holds its shape while the surrounding water moves. When conditions are right, the polyps extend and retract, giving the branches a living, breathing look.
