Lepas (Lepas) mehdii [Lepas (Lepas) mehdii]
Description
This species of goose barnacle is typically encountered on floating substrates, where it anchors itself and waits for food to come by. Underwater, divers may notice the barnacle’s conical shell and, at times, the delicate feeding appendages that sweep the water for plankton. Because it’s attached to drifting material, sightings are often brief but memorable.
