Lepas (Lepas) indica [Lepas (Lepas) indica]
Description
Divers may spot this goose barnacle as a small, pale “shell” attached to floating objects like driftwood, buoys, or even the hull of a vessel. It’s a filter-feeder: when conditions are right, feathery cirri extend to capture plankton drifting in the water. Often seen from the surface down to where the current carries it, it can look surprisingly delicate up close.
