Goose Barnacle [Lepas (Lepas) anserifera]

Goose Barnacle
Description

This species often appears on the underside of floating debris, buoys, or other rafted material, rather than on rocks. Underwater, its stalked shell can be seen with the feeding fan extended when currents bring food—an easy-to-miss but fascinating glimpse of a drifting filter-feeder.
