Deepwater chiton [Belknapchiton benthus]

Deepwater chiton
Description

As a benthic species, it lives on the seafloor, often on rocky or hard substrates where currents bring food. Divers may find it less frequently than shallow-water chitons, but when encountered it presents the familiar armored, multi-plate look that clings tightly to the bottom.
