Tripneustes [Tripneustes]
Description
Tripneustes (often called the collector urchin) is a rounded, spiny urchin that divers may encounter on seagrass beds and rocky areas. Its dense spines and slow, deliberate movement make it easy to spot as it grazes along the substrate. If you watch closely, you can see it methodically work over patches of algae and seagrass-associated growth.
