Harlequin Shrimps [Hymenocera]
Description
Hymenocera harlequin shrimps are famous for their close relationship with starfish, especially large predatory types. Divers may see them perched on or near a starfish’s arms, using their specialized feeding behavior to pick at the starfish’s tissues. They’re often small and well-camouflaged, but their unusual “riding” position on a starfish makes them a memorable find.
