Echinometra [Echinometra]
Description
Echinometra urchins are classic reef grazers, commonly found in small crevices or burrows in hard substrate. Divers may see them peeking from holes, with their compact bodies and sturdy spines positioned like living anchors. Their grazing helps keep algae in check, so you’ll often find them where the reef has a healthy, rocky “scrape” zone.
