Bristle Worms [Hemipodus]

Bristle Worms
Description

Hemipodus is another genus within the family Glyceridae, known as bristle worms due to the presence of numerous bristles along their bodies. These bristles, or setae, aid in locomotion and defense. Hemipodus species are less commonly known compared to their Glycera counterparts but share similar habitats, residing in sandy or muddy substrates in marine environments. They are important detritivores in the marine ecosystem, breaking down and recycling organic matter. Unlike Glycera, Hemipodus worms do not possess the distinctive bright red color, and their appearance can vary significantly among species within the genus.
