Diadem Sea Urchins [Diadematidae]

Description

Diadematidae sea urchins are recognizable by their bold, spiny armor and often striking color patterns. Divers commonly see them clinging to rocky surfaces, coral rubble, or reef slopes, where they graze on algae. Their spines can look dramatic up close, but they’re usually slow and steady as they move along the substrate.
