Siphonophores (colonial jellyfish) [Siphonophorae]
Description
Siphonophores are mesmerizing “colonial jellyfish” that can form long, floating chains or drifts of specialized zooids. Divers might see them as translucent, ribbon-like or ballooned structures with trailing tentacles, often moving with the water like a slow, drifting organism. Some species can be quite delicate to approach, so divers typically observe from a respectful distance.
