Zimocca sponge [Spongia zimocca]
Description
Spongia zimocca, also known as the zimocca sponge, is a species of sea sponge native to the Mediterranean Sea. It has a hard, rough texture and a rounded shape, usually growing to about 30 centimeters in diameter. Its color varies from brown to black. This species is a filter feeder, extracting bacteria and other microorganisms from the water for food.
