White Dead Man's Fingers [Alcyonium glomeratum]
Description
Alcyonium glomeratum, or White Dead Man's Fingers, is a soft coral species in the Alcyoniidae family. It is endemic to the waters of the northwest Atlantic Ocean. The colonies are white or cream in color and have a clumpy appearance, with polyps that extend when feeding. They are typically found on vertical or steeply sloping rock faces in areas with strong currents. Like other Alcyonium species, Alcyonium glomeratum is a suspension feeder.
