Tubastraea columnata [Tubastraea columnata]
Description
Divers often spot this coral as a cluster of upright, finger-like or columnar growths that can form dense patches on hard substrates. Its surface is typically pale to yellowish, and it can look surprisingly “sunny” compared with many surrounding corals. Because it’s a non-reef-building stony coral, it may appear more like a spreading colony than a classic reef structure.
