Tomcod [Microgadus tomcod]
Description
Also known as the winter cod or frostfish, Microgadus tomcod is a marine fish native to North America’s eastern coast. It is a small species, typically measuring 25 cm long. This species prefers shallow, brackish waters and is known to tolerate a wide range of temperatures. It is brownish on top with a lighter underside, and is characterized by a single barbel on the chin. Its diet primarily consists of small invertebrates.
