Thorny Lanternshark [Etmopterus sentosus]
Description
Divers may encounter this small deep-water shark as a dark, compact silhouette hovering just above the seafloor or in midwater. Its name hints at a rough, thorny feel—often noticeable on close inspection—while its subtle bioluminescent “lantern” pattern can give it a faint, ghostly glow in low light.
