Starry Cup Coral [Acanthastrea hemprichii]
Description
This species forms compact colonies of small, rounded cups that can give the reef a speckled, star-like appearance. Under good lighting, the corallites’ texture and depth make it easy to distinguish from smoother corals. Divers may see tiny organisms living close to the coral surface, and the colony’s shape often becomes a micro-habitat for reef life.
