Rough Cactus Coral [Mycetophyllia ferox]
Description
This species is found in the Western Atlantic basin in areas such as the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Florida. It prefers shallow reef environments, usually at depths less than 40 meters. The Rough Cactus Coral is known for its large polyps and its rough surface texture which has a bumpy, cactus-like appearance. It has a wide range of color variations, from bright green to brown or gray.
