Porous Cup Coral [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) floridana]
Description
As its name suggests, this coral forms cup-like structures with a noticeably porous, textured surface. Divers may see it in crevices or on hard bottoms where it’s protected from strong surge, and the coral can look especially detailed when you hover close and let your eyes adjust.
