Palythoa densa [Palythoa densa]

Description

Palythoa densa typically appears as a dense, encrusting growth that can blanket rock or coral rubble. Divers may see a tightly packed pattern of polyp mouths on the colony’s surface, creating a “bumpy” look. When conditions are right, the polyps can extend slightly, adding movement to an otherwise still patch of reef.
