Palythoa arenacea [Palythoa arenacea]
Description
Palythoa arenacea typically forms sandy-colored to beige encrustations that blend in with the surrounding substrate. Divers may see it as a broad, crusty growth with small, regularly spaced openings. When conditions are right, the colony can look more “alive” as it subtly expands and contracts, giving the impression of a living mosaic on the seafloor.
