Palythoa anneae [Palythoa anneae]
Description
Divers often notice Palythoa anneae as a low, encrusting patch that can spread across rocks or reef surfaces. It may look like a rough, textured carpet with many small openings, and in good light it can appear subtly mottled. Up close, the colony’s surface gives off a “lumpy” feel, and it’s a great example of how reef life can be both simple-looking and surprisingly dynamic.
