Pacific Tomcod [Microgadus proximus]
Description
Microgadus proximus, commonly known as the Pacific tomcod, is a species of cod found in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is normally about 30 cm long, but can grow up to 40 cm. The Pacific tomcod has a slender body that is pale to olive green in color, with a lighter belly and a dark spot on the shoulder. It lives in estuaries and coastal waters, where it feeds on small fish and invertebrates. It is predominantly a bottom-dwelling species.
